API Automation Tester

Position Overview
We are seeking a senior API Automation Tester for our Personal Investors IT business line in Chennai. The role will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts for web and mobile applications as well as APIs.

Job Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute automated functional tests for APIs, web and mobile applications using Java‑based frameworks (Selenium, Appium, Cucumber).
Build and maintain test scripts that conform to the enterprise automation framework and follow best‑practice standards.
Create, schedule, and monitor CI/CD jobs in GitLab; manage test artefacts in Nexus.
Perform manual testing and maintain test sets when automation is not feasible.
Assess automation feasibility for functional test cases and determine optimal test coverage.
Provide regular test automation status, execution results, and defect reports to the Test Lead/Test Manager and other project stakeholders.
Offer technical guidance to fellow automation engineers on framework usage and best practices.
Collaborate closely with QA team members, developers, product owners, and project managers throughout the testing lifecycle.

Required Education, Skills & Experience (must‑have)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
Minimum 7 years of professional experience in software testing, with at least 7 years dedicated to API test automation.
Proven expertise in Selenium‑based automation and Java programming.
Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitLab, and artifact management in Nexus.
Proficiency in using JIRA‑XRay for test management and defect tracking.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Minimum 7 years of exposure to the BFSI domain; experience in personal finance or lending is highly desirable.

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience (nice‑to‑have)
Experience with mobile‑automation tools such as Appium and behavior‑driven development using Cucumber.
Familiarity with manual test design and execution to complement automated coverage.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and support peers in adopting automation frameworks.
Strong collaborative mindset and a proven track record of thriving in agile, cross‑functional teams.
Additional certifications or training in test automation, DevOps, or BFSI‑specific regulations.
