Job Description: We believe in bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the drive
to transform knowledge into impact. Here, your curiosity fuels progress, your
voice shapes innovation, and your ambition helps redefine what’s possible within
science and learning. We are a culture that obsesses over impact, challenges,
and drives what’s next to power infinite possibilities for our customers,
colleagues and society at large. About the Role: The Associate Peer Review
Performance Manager is responsible for driving day-to-day peer review
performance (business-as-usual) across a defined segment of the Research
Publishing journal portfolio. This role oversees the effectiveness, quality, and
integrity of the peer review process by monitoring editor and editorial office
performance against expected behaviours, key performance indicators (KPIs), and
best-practice standards. The role focuses on optimizing peer review workflows to
improve speed to decision, author experience, and compliance, while ensuring
high editorial quality and process integrity throughout the author lifecycle.
The Associate Peer Review Performance Manager operates with direction from their
manager and receives guidance and coaching from senior peers. While this role
spans peer review operations, workflow optimisation, and cross-functional
collaboration, the primary focus is on editor and editorial office performance
management — monitoring, coaching, and driving improvement across a portfolio of
journals. The ability to apply performance standards consistently and
confidently, while exercising sound judgement — distinguishing between pushback
that should be navigated firmly and feedback that genuinely warrants a response
— is central to success in this role. Key Responsibilities: Peer Review
Operations Management Provide journal-level oversight of the manuscript peer
review process from submission through final editorial decision and handoff to
Content Operations. Ensure accurate and complete documentation of peer review
management activities. Identify, escalate, and support resolution of research
integrity or peer review concerns, including actions following investigations.
Adopt and implement new peer review services, tools, and enhanced workflows as
they are introduced. Editor and Editorial Office Performance Management Monitor
and evaluate editor and editorial office administrator/vendor partner
performance across multiple editorial office models. Communicate expected
behaviours, service standards, and KPIs aligned with established benchmarks.
Manage performance-related queries, feedback, and escalations. Analyse
performance data using self-service reports and insights from editorial data
analysts to drive continuous improvement. Enforce alignment with peer review
best practices, standard workflows, and codes of conduct. Initiate corrective
actions or retraining for editors or editorial office partners who do not meet
performance expectations. Share insights on recurring performance issues with
Publishing Development and Partner Publishing stakeholders. Hold indirect
accountability over Vendor Partner Editorial Assistants and External Editorial
Offices, setting clear performance expectations and driving standards with
partners who do not formally report to this role. Decision-Making
Responsibilities Exercise independent judgement to initiate corrective or
remedial action for editor or editorial office performance where standards are
not being met. Make decisions on editorial office model changes for individual
journals, consulting with Publishing Development colleagues as appropriate.
Determine when and how to escalate performance concerns to Publishing
Development or senior stakeholders. Workflow Optimisation and Continuous
Improvement Review, standardise, and optimise journal workflows to improve
efficiency, consistency, and adherence to peer review standards. Implement
journal-level improvements identified through audits, data-driven initiatives,
or Publishing Operations and Editorial Excellence projects. Support transitions
between editorial office models, including onboarding new partners to Wiley Peer
Review Management. Maintain accurate product and journal metadata by logging
journal-level changes. Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with internal
cross-functional teams to deliver departmental and customer-focused outcomes.
Partner with editorial data analysts to translate data insights into measurable
performance improvements. Work closely with Research Publishing colleagues on
journal-specific initiatives, relationship management, and performance
enhancement strategies. Contribute to relevant projects and strategic
initiatives as required Qualifications: Education Bachelor's degree or
equivalent relevant experience is required. A publishing certificate or
equivalent professional qualification is an advantage. Required Skills and
Experience Experience managing or supporting peer review operations, editorial
workflows, or scholarly publishing processes. Proven ability to monitor
performance metrics, manage KPIs, and drive operational improvements. Strong
analytical skills with experience using data and reporting to inform decisions.
Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders, provide constructive performance
feedback, and handle escalations. Strong organisational and time-management
skills, with the ability to manage multiple journals or workstreams
simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability
to communicate clearly and authoritatively to direct and influence colleagues
and external partners across different roles and levels. Proficiency in
Microsoft Suite and SharePoint. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with
academic editors, editorial offices, or third-party publishing partners.
Familiarity with peer review best practices, publication ethics, and research
integrity standards. Experience supporting workflow optimisation, process
standardisation, or change management initiatives. Experience with Power BI or
equivalent data visualisation tools for performance reporting and self-service
analysis. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict constructively, operate
effectively in ambiguous situations, and maintain standards under pressure. A
proactive, action-oriented approach with the ability to apply performance
standards consistently and confidently, exercising sound judgement to
distinguish between pushback that should be navigated firmly and feedback that
genuinely warrants a response. An improvement-focused mindset, with a
willingness to question existing ways of working and bring forward innovative
ideas. We power infinite possibilities. For more than 200 years, we've
