About the Role We are looking for a driven and analytical Category Manager – API to lead the sourcing, pricing, and growth strategy for the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients category. This role will be responsible for building supplier networks, optimizing margins, and ensuring reliable supply to meet customer demand in a fast-growing B2B healthcare platform.
Role will include partnering with manufacturers to list their portfolio in our marketplace, work internally with inside sales calling team and sales team to generate leads and converting these leads to revenue through our tech platform. It will require strong collaboration with finance, legal, operations, and customers to provide seamless services to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Growth Define and execute category strategy for APIs to drive revenue and margin growth Identify high-potential molecules and expand product portfolio accordingly Monitor market trends, pricing benchmarks, and regulatory developments
Supplier Management Identify, onboard, and manage API manufacturers and distributors Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and contracts to ensure competitiveness Build long-term strategic partnerships with key suppliers
Demand Planning & Inventory Collaborate with sales and demand teams to forecast requirements Ensure optimal inventory levels and minimize stockouts/overstocking Track product lifecycle and ensure availability of critical SKUs
Pricing & Profitability Develop dynamic pricing strategies based on market intelligence Monitor margins and take corrective actions to improve profitability Analyze competitor pricing and adjust strategies accordingly
Cross-functional Collaboration Work closely with sales, operations, quality, and regulatory teams Ensure compliance with pharma quality standards and documentation Support the sales team with product knowledge and customer insights
Data & Analytics Use data to drive decisions on assortment, pricing, and sourcing Track KPIs such as GMV, margins, supplier performance, and fill rates Generate reports and insights for leadership
Requirements
Education Bachelors’ degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related field MBA (preferred)
Experience 8–12 years of experience in API sourcing, procurement, or category management Strong understanding of pharmaceutical supply chains and API markets
Skills
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
Analytical mindset with proficiency in Excel/data tools
Good understanding of pharma regulations and compliance
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment
