Chassis- Brakes Engineer

Scope of Role
To support the delivery of foundation brake components from concept through to production, focusing on supplier management, parts release, and build support. This role ensures that brake components meet programme targets for quality, cost, and timing, while maintaining technical integrity.

Dimension of Function
Engineering Research & Development (ER&D) is a function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on projects and programmes for our clients. The Chassis domain is a growing area within this function. The Foundation Brakes Engineer will support the delivery of the foundation brake components through the full product development lifecycle for the vehicle platform.

Key Responsibilities

Component Delivery & Release
Responsible for supporting the delivery and engineering release of assigned brake components into the company’s PLM/3Dx system.
Work with suppliers to define optimum braking requirements to meet PAL targets and comply with internal and external standards.
Generate and maintain all related BOMs in PLM/3Dx, ensuring accuracy of mechanical content.
Produce and release component drawings to ISO standards.
Generate component envelope files for the packaging team.

Technical Ownership
Support component DFMEA activities to identify and mitigate potential failure modes.
Own and manage component DVP (Design Verification Plan) requirements, ensuring timely completion of validation activities.

Supplier Management
Act as the primary technical and delivery interface to Tier 1 suppliers for foundation brake components.
Manage supplier timing, quality, and cost performance.
Support suppliers in meeting release deadlines and resolving technical issues.
Parts & Configuration Management
Ensure all part numbers, revisions, and configurations are correctly maintained.
Support change management processes and documentation.

Build Support
Provide engineering support during prototype and production builds.
Resolve fit, function, and quality issues in collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
Ensure timely delivery of parts for builds and testing.

Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to reduce complexity, cost, and weight without compromising performance or safety.
Support other aggregates in the business to achieve programme release milestones.

Knowledge / Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ proven experience delivering brake components from concept to production within an OEM or Tier 1 organization.
Solid understanding of first principles of the braking system to lead problem resolution sessions and reach compatible cross‑functional solutions.
Strong knowledge of braking component attributes, complete braking systems, service implications, manufacturing and assembly requirements.
Practical experience of rig validation test methods for brake components and systems.
Understanding of how braking component design influences overall vehicle dynamic behaviour.
Proficiency in CATIA with some CAE capability desirable (structural, packaging, FEA).
Good all‑round engineering knowledge, including material selection, tolerancing, FEA analysis, component manufacturing processes, and quality control.
Experience in supplier management and commodity delivery.
Experience in parts management and PLM systems (3Dx preferred).
Hands‑on build support experience for prototype and production phases.
Demonstrated competence in DFMEA, DVP creation and management, and structured problem‑solving methodologies (8D, RCA).
Familiarity with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacture) principles.

Desirable
Experience with other chassis systems/components at concept level.
Familiarity with APQP and PPAP processes.
Exposure to brake NVH, performance, or durability testing.
Knowledge of pad wear sensors and their integration into braking systems.
Experience in identifying opportunities to reduce complexity, cost, and weight without compromising safety or performance.

Competences/Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
