Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and driven Damper SME – Chassis Systems to lead the integration, development and technical delivery of adaptive damper hardware into a semi-active Suspension System on an exciting product.
This is a customer and supplier interfacing role and will represent the team in multiple forums with the Client.
Area of Responsibility
Lead adaptive damper component design and development from concept to production
Define damper specifications aligned with vehicle performance targets (ride, handling, NVH, durability)
Own and deliver the Hardware Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) deliverables
Coordinate cross-functional teams including suspension design, vehicle dynamics, electronics, and software.
Manage Change Request, expenditure forecasting and the relevant supplier teams in support of delivery of the programme milestones
Manage the Client and supplier rig test plans, including detailed planning of test and development stages through to sign off and support Engineering test teams with rectification of issues
Support build and manufacturing team throughout the program
Lead and own any problem resolution activities related to the damper design, development and hardware performance
Identify process, component or design requirement improvements and implement them
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time · Keep all documentation up to date
Knowledge / Experience (Essential)
Experience: 6 to 10 yrs
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automotive, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
Highly experienced in design, development and delivery of passive & adaptive damper hardware and it’s integration with chassis/vehicle control systems
Significant driven attribute knowledge, particularly in impact and ability of semi active and active suspension technologies on vehicle dynamics.
Ability to negotiate technical solutions within a multi-disciplinary team and will have the ability to manage conflict and balance opposing programme demands.
Experience of processes including WERS/iCREATE releasing, AIM, APQP, FMEA, RMDV
Ability to manage supplier and the supporting team members
Good verbal and written communications
Excellent Analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge / Experience (Desirable)
Experience with motorsport or high-performance vehicle development
Component and system level issue investigations including appropriate problem solving and reporting tools (Six Sigma, 5D, Is / Is Not, Fault Tree etc)
Knowledge of ISO standards and regulatory requirements related to suspension systems
Experience in component level NVH and EMC related issues and resolutions.
