The Downstream Planner is responsible for translating demand signals into executable distribution and replenishment plans to ensure optimal product availability across warehouses, distribution centers, and customer locations. The role focuses on balancing service levels, inventory, and logistics efficiency while coordinating closely with demand planning, manufacturing, logistics, and sales teams.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Replenishment

Develop and execute downstream replenishment plans for finished goods across regional warehouses, DCs, and customer fulfillment points.
Convert demand plans and sales forecasts into distribution requirements and stock transfer orders (STOs).
Maintain optimal inventory levels by managing safety stock, reorder points, and replenishment frequencies.

Inventory Management

Monitor inventory health (excess, slow-moving, obsolete, and shortage risks) across the distribution network.
Drive actions to reduce excess and prevent stockouts while meeting agreed service level targets.
Support inventory optimization initiatives across multi-echelon supply chains.

Execution & Coordination

Coordinate with manufacturing planning to align production output with downstream requirements.
Work closely with logistics, warehousing, and customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
Manage allocation and prioritization during constrained supply situations.

Performance & Analytics

Track and analyze KPIs such as service level (OTIF), inventory turns, days of inventory, and forecast adherence.
Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in downstream planning and execution processes.
Prepare regular planning, inventory, and supply performance reports for management reviews.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

Use ERP/APS systems (e.g., SAP APO/IBP, Oracle, Kinaxis, O9, Blue Yonder) to run planning cycles and scenario analysis.
Participate in process improvement initiatives related to planning accuracy, responsiveness, and automation.
Support SOP/IBP cycles by providing downstream supply and inventory insights.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field
MBA / Postgraduate qualification in Operations or Supply Chain (preferred)

Experience

12+years of experience in downstream planning, distribution planning, or replenishment planning
Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, electronics, pharma, or large-scale distribution environments preferred

Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of downstream supply chain and distribution networks
Hands-on experience with ERP / planning systems (SAP strongly preferred)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Advanced Excel skills; exposure to Power BI or similar tools is a plus
Ability to manage complexity, prioritize, and make data-driven decisions
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
