Job Summary

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the software engineering teams on design, build and deliver digital platforms supporting Centrica’s energy transition. Engineer Manager will provide the technical direction of shared platforms, reusable components and help engineering teams deliver faster, safer, and more reliable software.

In this role, you will delivery customer centric digital platform that improves efficiency and sustainability. Increased adoption of digital platform for renewable energy and smart metering. Define engineering standards, build scalable and reliable platform, enhance collaboration between Centrica’s engineering teams, regulators and customer. Maintain platform compliance as with UK energy regulations and cybersecurity standards.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Manager – Digital Platform
Digital Platform Leadership – Led the development of scalable, secure and customer centric digital platforms
Manage end to end delivery of digital solutions, ensuring alignment with Centrica’s transformation goals.
Technical oversight for scalable, secure, and resilient platform components, balancing usability, governance, reliability, and cost.
Partner with product, architecture, security, QA, operations, and engineering teams to understand pain points and translate them into high-value platform solutions.
Champion engineering excellence across automation, observability, security, Quality, regulation & compliance, reliability, and continuous improvement for shared platforms and live services.
Influence senior stakeholders, set standards and guardrails, and mentor engineers and technical leads across the digital platforms.

Support the responsible use of AI and emerging technologies to improve engineering workflows, with strong controls for quality, security, compliance, and monitoring.

Skill Requirements

12+ years of experience in software engineering with proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and deliver complex digital platform
Good knowledge in UK energy systems, smart metering, renewable integrations and storage
Strong technical expertise in software engineering (Java, JavaScript, ReactJS, Python) with exposure to automation (CI/CD, observability, IaC, etc) and Quality engineering (functional and Non-functional)
Expertise in platform engineering, cloud-native architecture, APIs, automation, and modern software delivery practices.
Experience building internal developer platforms, reusable services, self-service tooling, or shared engineering capabilities that improve developer experience and delivery outcomes.
Deep understanding of engineering fundamentals including quality, security, scalability, maintainability, resilience, and operational ownership.
Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, work across functions, mentoring experienced engineers, and align platform strategy with engineering and business goals.
Track record of setting engineering standards, producing engineering metrics, and driving adoption of shared platform capabilities

Other Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field required. Good to have Certification in SAFe Agile, Cloud and AI
