We are seeking a Mainframe / SNA Integration Engineer to support the integration of a RESTful application hosted in AWS in a legacy mainframe environment. This role will focus on implementing Enterprise Extender connectivity to enable secure SNA-over-IP communication between the VIS application and the DMV’s systems.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with legacy SNA networking, LU 2 and LU 6.2 protocols, Enterprise Extender, and mainframe connectivity patterns. This person will work closely with application, cloud infrastructure, network, and DMV technical teams to ensure successful end-to-end communication once the VPN tunnel is established.
Responsibilities
Support implementation of Enterprise Extender to enable SNA-over-IP connectivity.
Configure and troubleshoot communication using LU 2 and LU 6.2 protocols.
Work with network teams to validate connectivity over the VPN tunnel.
Assist with integration between the AWS-hosted VIS RESTful web service and the DMV mainframe environment.
Troubleshoot SNA, mainframe, and application connectivity issues.
Coordinate with DMV technical teams to confirm protocol, endpoint, and access requirements.
Document configuration, connectivity flows, troubleshooting steps, and operational handoff procedures.
Required Skills
Experience with IBM mainframe connectivity and legacy SNA environments.
Strong knowledge of Enterprise Extender / SNA-over-IP.
Experience with LU 2 and LU 6.2 communications protocols.
Understanding of mainframe access methods such as VSAM and related data communication structures.
Experience troubleshooting network and application connectivity issues.
Familiarity with VPN-based connectivity between enterprise environments.
Ability to work with application, infrastructure, and network teams.
Preferred Skills
Experience with AWS-hosted applications or cloud infrastructure.
Experience integrating RESTful services with legacy mainframe systems.
Prior experience with DMV, government, or regulated data environments.
Knowledge of security requirements for sensitive data access.
