Placement Manager/Officer – (Law Placements)
The Placement Manager/Officer will be responsible for managing and coordinating all activities related to student placements and internships for the School of Law, including opportunities with law firms, advocates, chambers, corporate legal departments, consulting firms, and judicial offices.
The role involves building and maintaining relationships with legal industry stakeholders, organizing campus recruitment initiatives, and guiding students in pursuing careers across litigation, corporate law, public policy, and the judiciary.
The Placement Manager/Officer will work closely with students, faculty, alumni, and legal professionals to ensure a structured, transparent, and successful placement process while enhancing the employability of law graduates.
Key Responsibilities
Industry Engagement & Relationship Building
Develop and maintain relationships with law firms, senior advocates, chambers, corporate legal departments, legal consultancies, policy think tanks, NGOs, and judicial offices for internships and campus recruitment.
Regularly engage with recruiters to understand their practice area requirements and hiring expectations.
Organize campus recruitment drives, law firm interactions, networking events, guest lectures, and career talks involving legal professionals.
Strengthen alumni engagement to facilitate internship and placement opportunities for students.
Placement Process Management
Oversee the entire placement cycle, including employer outreach, pre-placement talks, application coordination, interview scheduling, and offer management.
Coordinate logistics for law firm interviews, assessment processes, and recruitment drives, ensuring smooth communication between recruiters and students.
Provide administrative support for placement activities such as application tracking, recruiter communication, and documentation of offers and acceptances.
Career Counseling & Student Preparation
Provide career guidance to students on career pathways in corporate law firms, litigation practice, judicial clerkships, in-house legal roles, and public policy organizations.
Assist students with resume building, statement of purpose preparation, and interview readiness for law firm and legal sector recruitment.
Conduct mock interviews, CV review sessions, and career development workshops tailored to legal recruitment standards.
Guide students on internship planning throughout the law programme to build a strong professional profile.
Data Management & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of internships, placements, employer interactions, and student career progression.
Prepare reports on placement statistics, internship participation, law firm engagement, and salary trends.
Analyse placement outcomes to identify emerging opportunities and areas for improvement in the placement strategy.
Internship & Clerkship Coordination
Identify and coordinate internships with law firms, advocates, courts, corporate legal departments, NGOs, and policy organizations.
Facilitate judicial internships and clerkships through appropriate institutional channels.
Ensure internships align with academic requirements and professional skill development objectives.
Legal Industry Trends & Research
Track developments in the legal job market, law firm hiring practices, and emerging areas of legal practice.
Identify new law firms, boutique practices, legal tech companies, and policy organizations that could provide placement opportunities.
Share relevant insights with students and faculty to help align academic preparation with industry expectations.
