athenahealth’s Revenue Cycle Management R&D organization as a Principal Member
of Technical Staff on the Posting team in Chennai. In this role, you will design
and build software that supports payment posting, reconciliation, transaction
processing, and other core revenue workflows. You will partner with product,
engineering, operations, and domain experts to deliver scalable, reliable, and
secure solutions that improve financial operations for healthcare organizations.
This role reports to the engineering leader for the Posting team. About the
Team: The Posting team supports athenaCollector, a cloud-based revenue cycle
platform that helps providers manage the claims and payment lifecycle more
efficiently. The team builds software that automates posting and reconciliation
workflows, routes exceptions, and reduces manual effort through better
categorization and prioritization of work. The team works across engineering,
product, and operations to solve complex financial workflow challenges while
maintaining strong security and compliance standards. This work helps healthcare
organizations improve reimbursement processes and focus more time on patient
care. Essential Job Responsibilities: Design and build software solutions that
support the Posting team’s revenue cycle workflows. Develop services and
applications that handle payments, posting, reconciliation, transaction
processing, and financial data movement. Translate business requirements and
user stories into technical designs and working software. Deliver software that
meets standards for security, performance, reliability, maintainability, and
testing. Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency through
automation, data analysis, and practical use of AI-enabled tools where
appropriate. Build solutions that improve categorization, routing, and reduction
of manual operational work. Participate in the full software development
lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
Estimate development effort and contribute effectively in Agile team planning
and delivery. Follow and influence coding standards, architectural patterns, and
engineering best practices. Collaborate with engineering, product, operations,
and other stakeholders to solve complex revenue cycle problems. Expected
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in
Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 12–18 years of software
engineering experience. Strong software engineering and computer science
fundamentals. Hands-on experience with one or more programming languages such as
Java, Perl, Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript. Experience working across the
full software development lifecycle, including development, deployment, and
production support. Experience working in Agile environments. Strong
understanding of Unix/Linux, SQL, NoSQL, and related technologies. Experience
with PostgreSQL and relational database design for enterprise applications.
Experience designing and developing solutions on AWS. Experience building and
operating applications in AWS environments using ECS and/or EKS. Familiarity
with version control and collaboration tools such as Git and Bitbucket.
Experience with object-oriented programming, distributed systems, relational
databases, and REST APIs. Demonstrated experience developing high-quality,
enterprise-scale software products using a structured development process.
Familiarity with modern AI/ML concepts and interest in applying them to workflow
automation, categorization, and operational efficiency is preferred. About
