What you’ll achieve

We're building a high-impact R&D team in India to drive the next generation of
our Lightning product, and we need a seasoned file systems architect to help us
get there. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll shape
architecture, influence design decisions across global teams, and set the
technical foundation as we scale our India presence.

You'll work directly with Global engineering teams, driving feature development
and architectural evolution of our file systems technology. This is an
individual contributor role with significant technical influence and the
opportunity to grow into broader leadership as the team expands.

You will:

* Implement, Design and architect scalable file systems solutions for the
Lightning product, balancing performance, reliability, and extensibility.
Work hands-on with code, reviewing designs, prototyping solutions, and
solving complex technical challenges.
* Contribute and drive technical strategy and architecture decisions across
Globally distributed teams. Establish technical standards, best practices,
and architectural patterns as we build out the India team. 
* Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to translate business
requirements into robust technical solutions.
* Mentor engineers and influence technical direction without formal management
authority.
* Lead architecture reviews and technical discussions across time zones and
geographies

Essential Requirements

* 20+ years of hands-on experience in file systems technology, with deep
expertise in design, implementation, and optimization. Strong proficiency in
C++ with experience building high-performance, production-grade systems.
* Deep understanding of distributed file systems, storage architectures, and
performance tuning at scale. Solid knowledge of NFS/SMB protocols and their
practical application in enterprise environments.
* Proven ability to architect complex systems that balance technical excellence
with business needs. Track record of influencing technical decisions and
driving consensus across distributed, cross-functional teams.
* Experience working in global organizations with teams across multiple
geographies. Strong communication skills - you can explain complex technical
concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Comfort with
ambiguity and the ability to define technical direction in evolving product
landscapes
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related
field

Desirable Requirements

* Networking and Storage troubleshooting skills
* Knowledge in Kubernetes, Hypervisor and containers
